Checking in as a new member. Just bought a 06 z4 and in the process of changing the top hydraulic pump.
BMW want $3500 for the job. Ordered a pump on Ebay and have a ex BMW mechanic do it for a fraction of the cost. |

New in Austin, TX
Hi, I just bought this 2007 Z4 M out of Florida. It should be getting picked up this week and transported to Austin. I haven't owned a BMW since having a factory 2002 Turbo in the early 80's. Does anyone know this car?

Hello!
Hello zpost,
I'm new to the board and new to bmw. I'm looking to purchase a 06-07 Si or maybe even an m roadster though I'm leaning towards the Si. I'm not a track guy or gear head though I have changed oil, filters, spark plugs and a distro cap before. I'm looking to get as much info from you to make an educated purchase. Thanks in advance for putting up with me. |

I does help to be a gearhead, though. The ///M needs a lot of preventive maintenance, and the cost will add up if you're not doing it yourself. I think you'll be very happy with the Si. Happy hunting!

As Stickmon said, the ///M can be a bit more maintenance work from time to time and its likely not as good on gas. However, you would be hard pressed to find an M owner on this board who regrets having bought their car. Fuel economy, well that is generally not a huge concern when your car has an M badge! As for the SI, I've got one and I find it to be great. Its actually quite decent on gas and around town and in all practical highway situations, it has GOBS of power for the average joe, even when driving in a spirited manner. Some folks who have owned both cars report that the SI feels faster off the line and at "city" speeds than the M, but I can't personally attest to that comparison. Here is a nice review of the SI: http://www.auto123.com/en/bmw/z4/200...00&artid=90628 I can personally attest to this comment though: "This engine pulls ferociously- especially on the highway where passing power is frankly startling." Good luck with the search, whether you end up with an SI or an M, you are in for a lot of fun!

Hi everyone at ZPOST! I'm a newbie here, checking in for the first time. I bought a 2006 M Coupe a couple months back, an MC that was owned by a fellow member here. My first BMW, it was just too beautiful to resist. I hope to learn a lot from the folks on this site!

Z4
Update:
RPI Exhaust 19 BBH-CH-R's Hankook (275 rear 225 front?) Status Gruppe Coilovers Status Gruppe Camber Plates Very happy so far! I had a SuperSprint on my E46 M3 and the RPI is a bit more tame but in a good way. It's not obnoxious unless you are WOT and when you do it sounds perfect. I'm not sure if it's the Hankooks or the SGT coilovers but it rides smoother over bumps...etc. |
