Aeromotive Stealth 340 install for my VT-525 Z4M
Hello all just thought I'd post some pics from my install of the Aeromotive 340 fuel pump in my freshly upgraded VT-525 running cattless supersprint V2 stepped headers. I decide to proceed with this as my car has had some fueling issues on track at high RPM's when transitioning to full throttle from maintenance on long high speed sweepers that was not fuel level dependent (car would go into the 'Yellow brake light' full power cut limp mode which requires a restart". There was always no codes on the DME from these limp modes and it was something I only could reproduce on track. This would occur approximately every 50 or so laps in the exact same situation. After I upgraded to the VT-525 from the Vt-445 my first track day was a bit of a wash bc I literally happened every single hot lap in the same situation as before. On the street I def noticed the much stronger midrange torque of the 525 kit but was not impressed with it after 6k. After a lot of phone calls and trouble shooting I decided to upgrade my fuel pump as it has some age on it and I was near the limit of power for the stock pump anyway. I am waiting for my new DKF midpipe to come in so I haven't installed my wideband AFR yet . Yes i know it would have sorted this out much quicker. At any rate after the fuel pump install the car is Much Much Faster especially over 6k rpm on the street. I have 285 sport cups on it and before the pump could not break loose in 2nd gear to save my life (I have 4.10 gears too) and now it shreds it!! I am very happy with the kit now and look forward to objective testing at Roebling next weekend. I will post temps, segment speed deltas and lap time deltas. ESS did a very nice job on the throttle mapping which is much improved over the VT-1 ( sport mode is not useless now , and regular response is sharper) all with no perceptable increase in throttle lag over VT-1.
At any rate here are the pics of the install! |

No this is an in tank pump vs the Walbro in line you mentioned. It also can flow much better at the high psi our fuel system runs at. Walbro makes very good pumps this one is just better, and perfect for an in tank replacement for the Z4M. The install itself took around 4 hours , bc we had to drop the rear diffuser take down the exhaust etc. ,before dropping the tank. It hooks up electrically very easily , but you do have to mod it to sit in the stock basket. The oem pump has a bit of a neck on it while the stealth does not . So we used a clamp and screw setup to secure it in the stock position in the basket. Not a bad install. People do make sleeve kits for the stealth that work for the E46 M3 fuel basket which i believe is very similar to ours if you want a plug and play solution. I included a flier from a company that sells a kit.

Yes sir it's not bad at all, not many good dyno options in the Charleston area (all are mostly for american muscle, crappy fans,no familiarity with our cars ,etc.)but I did get a dyno when I was stock with SS headers and a tune. It was a pretty low reading dynojet I was 280/240 with headers and a tune (But it was 110 in there that day lol with a small room fan) so it might be pretty accurate. Maybe I'll take it back there and see what it will do. My favorite test to be honest is 60-130 delta . NA with headers and a tune it was 12.1 seconds and with the Vt-1 kit in the same location similar conditions it was 10.5 seconds. I would expect I should definitely be in the 9's now. Ar any rate I'll be back at roebling road next weekend so I'll hopefully get good comparison data to my VT-1 kit. It will be in 90's so this will be a good test of the system in general. I'm certain thought the Setrab oil cooler unit is inferior to the custom M6 oil cooler I was running with my VT-1 kit but there just wasn't room for that massive thing with the intercooler in place. I will let everyone know how she does!

Has anyone else had this issue with the 525? Why did you not opt to try a new oem fuel pump, since your was old and worn? How many miles were on your fuel pump? Jut ordered one, so I want to be prepared for any future issues. Thanks

i currently have the 445 and i'm thinking about going 525, would you say it was worth it? and is the pump a necessity? I have euro/csl headers and was thinking about going epics as well. Interested to hear your thoughts!

Beware that ESS require Euro/CSL headers. Many people have had problems with other headers, even with NA tunes. ESS claim it's the primary O2 placement.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
The fuel pressure of my car (5 bar) decreases in full acceleration. Does not have sufficient capacity. which fuel-pressure you had before and after the change? which model do you have installed? 11140 center inlet? 11141 offset inlet ? 11142 inline inlet?
