Help Me Choose Tires for Daily Driving
My street setup is 18x8.5 et42 square. Plan is to wrap them in 255/35-18 and want to spend low $200's/tire. Car is not driven during the winter months, but don't need extreme summer tires neither because I have separate track shoes for that. With that said though, it'd be great if I can use them on the occasional wet/cold track day. Performance and comfort are highest on the list, treadlife is lowest.
My choices so far: Conti ExtremeContact DW Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 I know I'm leaving off the Michelin PSS which would probably be exactly what I'm looking for but you truth is even at $230/tire, I'm already spending a little more than I'd like. But who knows, maybe I'll cave lol... |

I run the Cont DWs on the street--reasonably grippy, confidence-inspiring in the wet, and a surprisingly comfortable ride. They aren't exactly crisp on tun-in, but I'm very pleased with them for their intended purpose plus they're priced well. Wish I had them on instaead of the Star Specs when I was at VIR in the wet a couple weekends ago...

I've had the goodyears on my new Apex EC7's for 6 months. Prior to that I had Pilot Super Sports on my OEM wheels. I find virtually no difference in the two tires other than the money I saved on the Goodyears. Granted I haven't taken them to the track yet but so far their handling and turn in response has been excellent.

I run those Goodyear Eagle Asym 2's on my 540i (youve seen) and they are very very good. While I dont have the Conti DW's, I do have the Conti DWS's on the X3, and those are great too, so i'm sure the DW's are even more comfortable. Frankly I think you'd be happy with either of em.
I second the PSS comment though....

Hankook V12, great for street and decent for occasional track day, not great for track though.

Ran the V12's 2 years back, good for street and auto-x but found the sidewalls to be a bit on the soft side, and wanted to try something new.

Out of the ones you mentioned the Goodyears would be my choice. They seem to get great reviews here in Europe. For example:
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...-Tyre-Test.htm http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...-Tyre-Test.htm Honestly though would you really be able to tell much of a difference between any of these for 90% of the time? They will be your daily driver tires after all.

I've used the Conti DWS for a couple years now and they are really great tires for everyday use. Not at all a track-worthy tire, but for all weather, daily driving, they are excellent. Having said that, I'm about to get Mich PSSssss and can't wait.

I'm running Hankook RS-3 245-40-18 on 9.5x18 et32 square setup, car is hooked up great on the street. Paid right at $800 for the set delivered. Can't go wrong.
I could have fit 265-35-18 setup on wheel, but was unsure of how much wandering the front would do. I may try with the next set, but am happy with the 245 series on street. Good luck. |

The hankooks are my first set after wearing out the oe runflats, still trying to reach that confidence level. They ride great, but I do miss a stiff sidewall.

I have to agree that the v12 are great, but sidewalls are too soft for my liking as well. I just put sumitomo htr z iii on my e90 and they are pretty good. Quiet, pretty sticky and they have a stiffer sidewall

Bump, DTD has 4 Michelin PSS for $980 shipped before 2 separate rebates that total $100, so $880 shipped to your door, not bad. May just go with that!

On my apexs wheels I have 235/40's in front and 265/35's in the rear. This is the size that Apex recommended. They are slightly shorter than stock but slightly wider as well.
