My custom OEM section 1 cats with EGT & o2 sensors bungs

Just want to share some pics so you guys know how your OEM cats look like without the sheet metal.

Here is what it look like:









I fabricated the bungs. The o2 sensors bungs are Vibrant 45deg bungs. The EGT sensor bung is a M14X1.5 screws (or a VW wheel bolt) that I drilled in the center to a 7.45mm ID, 25mm long.

nice thread, nice pics of the system without the shields. I wonder if the mid pipe could be reworked with these cats and followed up by resonators such as AR20s or the like, all in the rearward section of the midpipe?

Nice welding BTW!

No I decided to install wihout the heat shield. I put some exhaust wrap instead

It's possible to to a custom S pipe with resonators in it. But the exhaust flow will hit those resonators before the cats (cats are near the X pipe flange)

Great job! As an FYI to anyone the Euro cats are twice as long as the North American secondary cats. The euro cats extend almost all the way to the flange and fill out the entire area under the heat shields.

Exact. US cats must be less restrictive than the Euro version in that case.

Why? Almost all aftermarket section 1 with cats or not don't have heat shield.

I'm just thinking about your secondary O2 wires, but it depends how you ran them. Theres not a lot of room and its gonna get HOT, but hope it works out.

You can route the wires like this (took the pics in crfine88 build up thread). You don't need to modify the o2 sensors wires, they are long enough if you reroute them on the driver side of the transmission tunnel.

I was going to do what Jumbosock did in his videos and write up. I noticed he said that due to having just enough wire to reach the post cat locations he was considering a heat shield of some sort since he wasn't able to pin one of the wires up away from the exhaust. I'm just looking for a good product to use. Thanks for the fire sleeve recommendation, StickMon.

I have no experience with the stuff but it says its good for up to 500* continuous. The headers and section 1 will be ceramic coated. Is the fire sleeve adequate for the temps produced by our exhaust, even if ceramic coated?

The fire sleeve will be able to support the heat of your section 1. But make sure they are not directly in contact with with the pipe. There is long enough of wires if you route them on the driver side of the transmission tunnel.

Ok, thanks. Now, one last question for you guys who have been down under there. What size fire sleeve would you buy? Will it be possible to slip it over the O2 sensor and slide it up to the appropriate place on the wire or would it be necessary to slice it and retape it with fire tape?

If you route it the OEM way, the cables drop down right to where you need them. Take a look at my mod thread as I have lots of pictures.
