My Z4 is my first sports car. I never thought I would have such a car, and now I can't imagine being without it.

Garage List
I owned a series of "sporty" Japanese cars starting with a new 1974 Toyota Celica GT which is the first car that I autocrossed. I've been in love with sports cars since I was a kid building model sports cars in the early 60's. Unfortunately, I had bad experiences with previous used cars so reliability became a key concern and my practical side has apparently always won out over my emotional side when it came to cars. I almost bought a new Fiat 124 Spyder, then convinced myself that the 124 Coupe had the same performance but was more practical, then thought about the Fiat maintenance reputation and bought the Celica instead.

Other Japanese sporty cars included a 1984 Prelude, a 1988 Prelude, and a 1996 Integra GS-R. All of my Japanese sporty cars were been modded with larger wheels/tires, intake and exhaust systems, and aftermarket shocks and springs. I considered the last-gen Mazda RX-7 but it had a horrible repair record and I ended up with the Integra instead.

My 2000 S2000 was my first real sports car and the combination of performance and probable Honda reliability won me over. I put on larger wheels/tires, an aftermarket exhaust, and a larger front sway bar, only what was permitted to be legal for the SCCA A Stock autocross class. I later added a K&N FIPK intake system. I had that car for 13 years and said many, many times that I'd never sell that car but then I fell in love with the Z4 M Roadster and bought mine in July. It now has a Stromung exhaust.

My current plan is to do European Delivery on an M4 in either 2015 or 2016. I hope to still keep the Z4 M!

Only other "sports" car I've owned would be 02 Honda S2000. It was a beautiful car haha

Also owned dc integra, 00 celica gts, 98 sc300, 99 GS400, 03 WRX, none were as cool as the s2k or my Z.

i really do love roadsters.

1964 MG Midget (you try driving one of these when you're 6'6"!)
1968 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe
1973 Mazda RX-2
1963 Porsche 356B
1974 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000
1973 Datsun 240Z
1967 Corvette convertible (327/350)
1981 BMW 320i
1971 Datsun 510 track day car (with 610 SSS engine, 240Z trans and LSD, Mulholland suspension)
1985 SCCA Sports Renault race car
1987 Porsche 944
1989 Toyota Supra
2006 BMW Z4 3.0i

Where did they all end up?? The Z4 is by far the best of the bunch, although the 240Z and 944 had much better interior room, the Alfa had the best steering, and the 'Vette made the nicest sounds...

BTW technical term of a sports car is a front engine rear wheel drive two seater.

No offense to anyone here.

Picked up a 74 1/2 MGB about 5 years ago, it was in pretty bad shape so didn't really get around to doing anything with it. Ended up buying the Z4 so I could drive something sporty until I got up the gumption to tackle the MG, restoration of which is Finally underway.. I figure by the time I've got the MG where I want it, the Z4 will be wore out and ready for a restoration itself!

I would say that's not the technical definition, but rather the original definition; it's been out-dated for over half a century, as many sportscar-makers have crammed small, nearly unusable seats back there since the 50s.

My list:

1983 Porsche 911SC
1983 Porsche 944
1983 Porsche 928S
2000 BMW Z3 coupe
2003 BMW Z4 2.5i

Let's see if these qualify...

1961 Triumph TR3
1967 Triumph Spitfire
1972 Triumph TR6
1968 MGB
1976 Fiat 124 Spider
1978 Datsun 280Z
1985.5 Porsche 944
2003 BMW Z4

That was quite a trip down memory lane.............I owe a debt of gratitude for each and every British sports car I owned...they taught me about everything mechanical and electrical...I bow to Lucas, the "Prince of Darkness".

Hogndos,

At the risk of starting a Lucas sub-thread, I have to add that the motto of the Lucas Factory is "A good day's work, and home before dark."
