M Coupe - how many already gone?

Hey guys (and a few gals),

Quick question that somebody on this forum will know:
I learned as I followed the M coupe before I bought (most of the info on this forum!) that only 1815 M Coupe's were brought over. Is there any public access database as to how many of them are still alive. Is there a way to track current total registrations for a given make or model car? I am just curious how many have already been wrecked or driven into the ground and are no longer registered. Given that our car is already approaching 5 years out of production, it would be interesting to track that number over time. I imagine we will lose quite a few in the next 5 years, then I would think it would stabilize with a much slower loss rate. This may also be complicated with an occasional new arrival of a car from overseas, but U.S. cars may make the reverse trip as well.

Thanks!

I've often wondered how many have been wrecked beyond repair. Good luck with your hunt for data. I'm sure someone here has a count on how many have died over the years.

Hmm, maybe someone here has access to Copart and some other auctions, so we could make a spreadsheet of the Ms that have been wrecked. Its not THAT many of them, so should be a do-able project

They actually were not "brought over". The E85/86 Z4's were all built in Greer, SC. It would be interesting to know how many remain of the original amount sold.

I maybe mistaken ( I am often mistaken) but I was under the impression that the Z4 M Coupe was actually produced in the USA and not brought over from Germany.

That's partly what made it great deal to import into Canada.
The USofA VIN meant no duty! (6%).

OK, so I stand corrected on the production location.... But it seems there is no easy answer to the question I was asking.

I have surfed this on the internet a little bit - I can't find a section on the state DMV websites that allows a total make and model search - At least not for my state, and several others. Also went to the national DOT website and could not find a way to search this.

Not sure if there is a good way to track this. I will keep exploring. I think this would be cool to follow over time - just not sure how to get the info easily and keep it updated.
