Anyone for a 5lb car battery?

So braile batteries are good don't get me wrong but there is another option to drop almost 15 more pounds from your lightweight battery!!!

http://www.circletracksupply.com/Lit...-with-BMS.html

$630 dollars is alot of money for a battery I will give you that!!! But if you are crfine or similar every pound counts!

If you went from a conventional battery to this you are saving almost 45#'s from the get go!

What are your thoughts on this?

one love mentioned using a Lithium Pro battery in this thread and having no issues.

For me personally, I do want to get one of these at some point (and fabricate new enclosure/bracket so I can regain trunk space ). But I won't do it until I can lighten the front of the car by an equal amount to maintain the perfect 50/50 weight balance. Maybe a lightweight hood, since there's not many options for losing weight at the front.

You can get an 8lb battery for $200. Unless it has a 10 year warranty, it won't be worth it.

You already have euro headers installed on your car, time to get that 50/50 weight distribution back with a lightweight battery

I was incorrect. $120. 15 lbs. Odyssey PC 680

This is the battery that we use at the track. Not good for daily driving. They also make other sizes if you want more amperage. I do not know how they work with the z4m, since there are supposedly issues with not having stock batteries.

too small for a daily driver IMHO. I'd stick with 15lbs, its a good compromise

good point, time to save up for a battery

Pound per dollar it's not a bad mod:
- Battery = -40 lbs. ~ $630 = $15.75 per lb
- Seats = -90 lbs for both (recaro pole position). ~ $2k = $22 per lb
- Hood = - 10 lbs ~ $4k = $400 per lb
- Removing entire nav/radio = -45.6 lbs (just for reference)

Other than that, don't know where else one could lose weight easily. Removing the entire bulkhead (per crfine's thread) only nets about -10 lbs if you put a cage in.

I'm going to do more aggressive diff, then maybe seats/wheels before battery. I also figure if you wait long enough lithium battery prices will continue to go down.

You can remove your A/C system

Or the sound deadening in the cabin...

Or switch your HID for halogen...

But seriously, a big brake kit and some 19/20lbs wheels will save some pounds that you will be able to notice while pushing the car. Unsprung weight!

Also, I will most probably buy just one Recaro PP and remove the passenger seat for track days.

Since we have the CSL brakes the stoptech BBK will gain you 5lbs overall (gaining 12.8 lbs in the rear, losing 7.6 in the front). With euro headers that's 15.8 lbs dropped from the front. At that point the battery would be a good idea, as it would offset the weight gained in the rear with brakes, making it only a 10lb difference. If you got a 15lb battery you'd end up even

Running only one Recaro PP in the front would make you about 110 lbs lighter than stock!

For wheels I really want some TE37s.

There is another battery out there that is worth checking out. This is exactly 1/2 the price and performs just as well, if not, better. Check out this Shorai battery

http://www.batterystuff.com/batterie...36l3-bs12.html

I have used 2 of these, and am totally satisfied with both. My first one was in my now sold S2000, used it for around a year without any problems. After I sold that car I bought another one for my Z4M. It's been in my car for around 6 months now, & loving it! My car is a weekend/track car so it does not get driven daily. Even after sitting for 2-3 weeks without being driven, it always cranks as strong as stock every time.
