SUCCESS!!! 3.0I to 3.0SI ECU upgrade has finally been achieved!!!
UPDATE : 04/25/12
Well after going back and forth for months we finally cracked it! car is a demon! accelerated like my I has never done before. car has driven now for almost a month now with the new software and the drivability is great and no lights or error codes, my engine is as of right now driving like a stock SI Z4. NOTE: this is not a tune of the I software, this is SI engine tuning spliced into the stock I software so it makes the engine think its a tru SI not a tuned I. theirfore more HP can be made over any tuned I map. pretty cool stuff! what’s coming next is tuned software for this conversion to squeeze out the remaining HP left. I am planning to get the dyno done here soon and will be able to post numbers and the difference between the stock and new custom SI MAP. the one thing the SI has over the standard I is the torque converter in the trans, it’s a slightly larger stall. but the I has a tad higher rear end so it makes up a little bit so it’s probably barely noticeable, if you’re crazy you can always stick in the SI torque converter to finish the deal. also if you’re a stick shift then this won’t bother you. once I have the new maps with the tuned software I will dyno all 3 so you guys can see the difference in action. otherwise this should be the biggest gain in HP us N52 "I" guys can get for the money. looking at going from 212HP to 275HP is the goal. we will see. just wanted to keep you all updated. Hello neighbor. I live in Naperville too. I am very interested to hear more about your ecu upgrade. I was getting ready to go get a generic boxed tune but now I am going to wait to see what you come up with.

I’m near Naperville rd and 75th street. anyway, i may have been overexcited and to say success right at the moment is only a half truth, but to have the car start and drive meant we are on the right track, their are just a few more codes that we have to work around, they dont hamper the drive but throw a code and the light and we dont want that. again this is not a tune but a reprogram of the ECU using bmw SI engine programming with SI tuning on top of that, so you will need the 3 stage manifold before you get the reprogram + tune. im kind of the guini pig at the moment and taking a risk using my engine as the lab rat as it where. once i have a completed ECU i will take it to the dyno and swap between stock and reworked ECU to show gains. |

Do you tune yourself or are you working with Eurocharged or someone? |

just like loosing weight! sounds like my wife! she tells me when i want to spend money on "go faster" parts she tells me to "loose weight and its free" lol oh well. that would be great, a freind of mine who moved here with us (Navistar) just got an M3 so we would totally show up. id have to bring the MINI, i fear if i showed up with an auto M lookalike i may get flamed lol...... hey no M badges are on it, well maybe on the steering wheel and wheels but thats no different than most M tuned cars. anywho talk to you soon man! |

great job, and thanks for being so persistent! unfortunately I just found out that my 328i has an n51 motor and I don't think your mods could be retrofitted to mine....

the 3 stage manifold must be done first (this alone has shown to gain 10WHP dyno proven) which i have the DIY on somewhere on the forum. the parts i bought off www.car-part.com from a junk yard off a low milage X3 SI, the part cost was $200 including the acuators so i see it being under a grand all said and done if parts are bought used. parts you would need new from the dealer if you choose to not buy used or no parts are available are: New parts from dealer---- part# 11617559523 manifold $586 part# 11617579114 ajuster unit $186 part# 11617560538 ajuster unit $186 ------------------------------- Total $958 + ECU = ? everything else can be swaped from your single stage manifold so buying the parts new from the dealer would cost a bit more i could see ESS selling the manifold and the DISA valves with programming as a kit but i dont know how they will go about it, im just speculating. I have no idea what price ESS will want for the programming but i cant see it being out of line with what else they charge for ECU programming time will tell. |
