its just a standard pioneer double din radio. i hacked it and im running windows ce 5.0 with custom software its touch screen but i also have the steering wheel controls programmed to control all the aspects of the radio as well. it took some time and still have some kinks but overall i love it and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Awesome job....

Please post a lot more pics (side, bottom, etc) and give a play by play on what you did to get to this point (external controls etc).

Thanks..

running the AC drains HP... I could live without the AC vents

Very nice job, top notch!

That looks GREAT.. but, I would need A/C vents here in South Central. Seems that it would be OK to do same thing, but add the vents on the side if needed. Nice job!

thanks for all the compliments. as far as the A/C goes i went ahead and "plugged" the center vent. the 2 side vents are pushing out a lot more air then before (making it a bit noisy, but nothing LOUD music cant fix ) it still cools and heats very well. that was the first thing i tested before proceeding with this little project. as soon as im done ill do a brief write-up. it wasn't difficult at all. right now im thinking about just having a professional do the whole face plate in fiberglass or continue and finish it the way i started it. either way ill post pictures when im done. thanks again.

ps, the vents on the side are certainly "do-able" im just very impatient and wanted to do this asap before i got lazy and changed my mind.

Slick. I'd seriously consider that if I didn't have the bloody radio with the nav.

Can you not retro fit 2 side vents on either side of the Nav like in the photo shop sample on the previous page or can it not be custom made with a 3d 3-axis CNC machine given the measurements or templates. They can make a custom grill to fit exactly i would imagine using a precision machine such as that computerized CNC ,composite machine. To me that photo shop picture with the vents looks modern, stock and beautiful. It is the pluming of the duct that im worried about.

I think the modified vents in the photoshop look ugly.

Thanks for the inspiration! Here is what I'm working on right now with a shop (Cartronix in Indiana). I went with a Clarion NX501 unit. They're making me a custom 1 piece panel to place in there, installing a specdock for my iphone, and putting the module in to maintain steering wheel controls.

The panel in this pic is just for testing/fitment.. the actual finished one will be this size/shape but with a different finish. I'm not sure what it'll be covered with yet, but I'll post more pictures as more progress is made.

Sorry for the bad pics. cellphone is terrible. But here are a couple of it finished. I'll get some better photos later. Clarion wants some photos of the install so there is a guy I'm supposed to meet up with so he can take some for me.

Hi everyone !

I was wondering if it was possible to create a "dock" for a 2-DIN radio, for example with a 3D printer ?

I think that we need to remove the fan to include this kind of radio ? But we can also adapt them, to keep the ventilation ?

Almost like this :

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1787107

So can we take this part off (the ventilation, not cut the panel) :

Because I think that a 2-DIN won't get in with that ??

(Excuse my english )

Yes, so I do.

I would like an Android Radio, with an access to the Play store.

Like that I would use my tomtom on it, instead of using my phone. And it would be nice to have a big screen.
