Aftermarket Brake Pads??
My OEM brake pads are coming to the end of their life. What aftermarket brake pad can I buy for the front and rear.. Thanks.

The brake pads should be covered under the warranty. Even if you want to go with aftermarket pads, have your OEM pads replaced by the dealer first because they'll replace the OEM rotors at the same time too.

I should clarify that brake pads/rotors are included in maintenance program and not the regular warranty. When BMW replaces worn pads, they're supposed to replace the rotors at the same time, not only the pads. If you're looking for aftermarket pads that generate less brake-dust, most people will recommend you the Axxis Deluxe Plus street pads from zeckhausen.com.

Go with Brembo or Stoptech. Can't go wrong with either.

I will second GP 20....if you change just the pads the Axxis Deluxe are hard to beat. Dave Zeckhausen is THE MAN. Great service and advice with instantaneous turnaound.

After reading about all the dusting brakes comments,
I orderd a set of Axxis Delux when I first got my car. They're still on the shelf. I really don't find dusting to be an issue at all. FWIW.... If I was doing anything, I'd go with Axxis Ultimate street pads that have higher temp thresholds for better fade resistance at DE track days. (too lazy to swap in track pads) Axxis Delux; 716 °F Axxis Ultimate; 932 °F

I just installed some Axxis pads on the front about a month ago, they are excellent. I can drive almost 2 weeks without the wheels getting dirty. Its strange because now my rear wheels get dirty first. Have car in shop today to get rear pads/rotors replaced, will replace with Axxis afterwards

Yup - if you are thinking about pads that can handle track duty my favorites have been from Carbotech. Their Panther pad can handle street and light track duty although I know folks who are pretty hard on their brakes and have gone to XP-10s.
These are pads designed for being used at temperature - not for the cosmetics of "no dust".

Yep....I bedded them in (twice per Zeckhausen's instructions) about a week prior to the event and then put a few hundred miles on them traveling around town and to the track.
I was squintin' at my rotors and a guy in the next garage asked what was wrong. After I told him I thought I had problems with my rotors he asked what pads I was using and then mentioned he had the same experience. I put the stock pads on for the trip home and everything was fine after that. The ultimates didn't spew enough pad material on the rotors to damage them just enough to give me a case of extereme jitters when braking hard (and I mean HARD). The stock pads apparently removed the excess ultimate pad material from the rotors because I never had the problem again. I admit that I was surprised because I had assumed the ultimates would be good for street and track use.

Nope - Axis Ultimates are not meant for actual track use. StopTech used to hand those out as standard pads when you bought their BBK years ago. I got a set along with a BBK for a 2001 Audi S4 that was seeing a lot of track duty and they didn't do well at all. I spent plenty of time on the phone with the StopTech folks (Matt Weiss in particular) and they were pretty blunt about letting me know that the Ultimates were not even on the ballpark for honest high temperature work. My rotors required serious some rehab work in order to get rid of the deposits the Ultimates left while they went into meltdown mode out on the track.
Any pad that says it is Street/Track use is a compromise pad that is not going to stand up to a heavy brake foot at the track. Folks pushing the straight speeds that the ///Ms can reach are going to be very hard pressed to find an all purpose pad that can handle the loads. Getting a pad that can handle the heat cycles and leave no brake dust (or lots of squealing) sounds like Mission Impossible(TM).

AlanL I agree (wish I'd known that then).
Even better.......this occurred while I had the 04 3.0i showing that they definately aren't up to heat cycles on a track.

I want to add that I ordered the pads from Zeckhausen BUT did not have the foresight to ask him about them prior to purchase.
Zeckhausen's service and tech help are still #1 in my book.
