I have always used BBS wheels on all my BMWs. I currently have the BBS CH 18"x8.5" on the front and 18"x10" on the rear. See the below pictures

^^^ OP, believe me... 10" rears on a non-///m are not a good idea. they're quite nice for the ///m guys who not only have the power to turn that much weight, but also have the clearance for them. if you do end up thinking it's the way to go though, the ONLY offset that will work is et40, you'll need to add more neg camber, and they'll still stick out from the fender line.
please please please pleeease don't do it though.

i keep mine in my flanel sock drawer, just to the left the women's clothing drawer... maybe you have a similar arrangement at your log house?
i'd send you mine, but you know how Harold gets when people are late to Possum Lodge meetings.

Hmmm... have to disagree with U... I have been doing larger/wider after market wheels on my BMW cars for over 25-years. The 10" wide BBS CH wheels on the rear of my non-///M Z4 Coupe 3.0si, has worked very well 99.9% of the time. The 8.5" rims in the front with the larger //M Coupe 225/45x18 front tires have rubbed when I was doing "The Tail of the Dragon" very aggressively. Overall...I would upgrade the wheels & tires the same way again. It makes the car feel, handle and look so much better...

i understand the handling part... but i don't get how adding more weight to a drive axle helps to increase accelleration, or decrease stopping distance. how much does a 10" BBS CH wheel weigh? surely it's more than 27 lbs?

Do U realize how little difference one pound of wheel weight makes in the total weight of the rear drive axle, especially on the street? More important than the weight of the wheel, is the weight of the tire, which is further away from the center of the axle.. The BBS CH 18”x10” weighs 26.5 pounds and my Michelin Max Performance Pilot Super Sport weight 25 pounds. Street wheels & tires, by design and function are heavier for all road conditions and track wheels & tires are very light for speed & traction on dry conditions. I have been doing high performance Drivers Schools on road tracks for over 25-years and I use very light forged wheels with special tread-less track tires, which are very light. When I change wheels at the track, my street BBS wheels & pilot Super Sport tires feel twice the weight of my track wheels & tires. I chose my BBS wheels street wheels for road handling and looks, not for maximum performance of +130mph that I do on a dry track.

this is in no way an attack and i'm certainly not trying to start something negative here...
ok, first you say... Quote:

my reference to the rear axle was not for the total weight of the assembly. it was for how much mass the engine has to turn (i.e. rotational inertia), which you have clearly felt, because you said... Quote:
as for the looks issue... it's personal taste. you like that your rear wheels are over-flush. that's fine; however, looks is not what i was hitting on. i'm more concerned that under load, the tires may have clearance issues. especially so if the car is going to be lowered. and if the car does get lowered, tire wear will be damn near unbearable, unless the OP has a giant stack of burnable income like you clearly do. one thing i have learned today... apparently, people think i will only understand something if it's printed in bold.

Ok, so I'm learning a lot here. Thanks for the good conversation here. I'm trying to learn here and apply it to what I need.
If I get the H&R lowering springs for my Z4 3.0si, with the VMR VB3 and Hankook V12 235/40 F and 265/35 R, will these rub at all under load? |

remember too that h&r's are pretty hard on stock struts and shocks, so be prepared to need new ones more on the soon side of "sooner or later".

I too, "in no way on an attack and I'm certainly not trying to start something negative here"... Most people chose street wheels & tires mainly for looks and secondly for function, as I do. Street wheels & tires vary little is total weight. Also, most people chose track wheels & tires almost 100% for function, as I do. My track wheels and tires are smaller and ugly, but they perform very well and I get much better lap times with them than I do with my street wheels and tires. I really do not care how heavy my street wheels and tires are and how terrible they perform, because I save my racing for the track.

I did not like the black wheels at first either, but I always had silver wheels and want to try something different. My black BBS CH wheels are exactly the same wheels as I have on my Z4 Coupe 3.0si (that is FOR SALE), but in silver. See below picture. I have received more compliments on my black wheels than I ever received on my silver wheels. Your car looks nice. I had two Z3 M Coupes...one S52 and one S54.

I ordered and still own a Z4 Coupe 3.0si (which is FOR SALE) "Sports Package" means: - Sports Button - Larger wheels and tires - stiffer springs & shocks

That, I will concede. They're not to my taste, but I've gotten a LOT of compliments on the wheels since buying the Z3 coupe (it came with them) - easily as many as I've gotten on the CSLs on my Z4. My youngest nephew, who's 16, says some red BBS center caps are all I need to complete the look.

I think black wheels on a white car look really nice. I was initially considering black rims or gun metal rims on my car. You can't go wrong with dark rims.
However, as someone pointed out to me, when you get something dark, your car stands out more and looks like it is built more for the younger street racer crowd. I've got a Satin Silver Civic as my daily driver with bronze te-37 knock offs and dark rims with a light colored car does look like the car is made for street racing. For the look I'm trying to achieve, I think I'll be going with silver colored rims. Dark vs. Silver, you really can't go wrong with either. Especially on a white car.

Ever since I toured the BBS factory in the Germany Black Forest in the late 1980’s, I have always preferred BBS wheels.
I have the BBS CH black on my Z4 M Coupe and I have the BBS CH silver on my Z4 3.0si Coupe.

Isn't it true that the BBS forged wheels are now made in Japan? Im not sure about the cast wheels like the CH. I would love me some BBS if i could afford to drop that kind of coin...
