Whooo boy...interesting new info from Chris!
1) Did a boost check before even bothering to change the pulley. The car was making /3PSI/! 2) After changing the pulley, the car made 5PSI. 3) Two boost leaks were identified, including one at the BPV. After fixing them, 6.5PSI. 4) Roman looked over the car as well and knows it should push 7PSI+, and so wants that problem sorted, but we're going to delve into that another day. Perhaps once I'm home to NorCal and not in the middle of my vacation when I want the car available. Here I thought I was probably running 5PSI, and avoiding higher RPMs anyway...makes sense that the tune behaved as badly as it did. It originally concerned me that despite the S/C boost being off, the tune wouldn't adjust enough to handle it, but now I understand. I'm almost afraid to feel the power now... |

The leaks were: some kind of nut on the BPV that needed to be tightened down, and one of the hose clamps (I believe also connected to the BPV but not certain). I will have them pointed out when I pick up the car. |

6.5-7psi is normal for the 7psi pulley, i happen to make a solid 8psi due to a slightly smaller pulley being sent out...... this can work either way..... i got lucky :-)
6.5psi will get you the vt2 experience, some checks/movement on clamps/hoses will no doubt get you your missing 0.5psi :-) your nearly their iphone..... your nearly ther bro!!! FYI the bpv have an adjustment nut in the middle that comes pre adjusted from vortech...... tweaks alter its behaviour :-) imo id like to get an "aftermarket BPV" with part recirc part vent to atmosphere capability, i believe the ess flange design is a popular fitment type.....

peak recall on my stack unit
a solid 8psi, showing slightly more due to me missing the 7900rpm and bumping the limiter, a clean run to 7900 shows a nice 8psi... i look forward to seeing what you guys are seeing on your boost logs i see -20 vaccum on a warm idle..... right where it should be :-) see why i said get a gauge setup now???

Oh man, I definitely didn't want to increase my limiter...having a relatively long stroke and a high redline, our motors are already dealing with huge forces stock, so adding in the S/C I'd be pretty scared to push my luck further

Tom your Redline will be increased to 8200 if your requested the high rpm limit, which will net you Even more boost :confuse d0068: about another 0.25-0.5 infact ;-) if you get an 8psi pulley like i think you have, your getting very close to the 9psi the vt2-550 runs.... you may well have the most powerful z4m with the ess kit :-)

Yeah...not everyone knows this, but apparently the S54 has the fourth highest maximum linear piston speed at stock redline of any production engine, including Lambos and Ferraris . It's truly a mad engineer creation that is just built strong to withstand the ridiculous forces it is subjected to, and we are edging well into that overengineering margin just to run the VT2-500. Since the most dangerous forces on the engine increase as the square of engine speed, not just linearly, I actually only intend to break 7k if the car is on the dyno or if I really want to impress a passenger...or beat a supercar .

I will measure the S/C pulley when I get my car back, unless it's written on it or something so convenient . |

nothing wrong with using every single one of those 7900rpms, i was really pleased to report not 1 shim was needed for the insp1 on the car and the valve checks, the car has had FI for well over an year now ;-) and run at high revs reguarly, getting to see inside the motor it looked brand spanking new.... i dont abuse my car but use the performance accordingly.... the motor seems to love it!!
i do feel the okada coils would be a wise decision but they are insanely expensive, they offer some real nice performance in terms of spark/ignition......

I got to drive the car a fair amount, but not a whole lot; immediately, however, it is much better as was expected (or at least hoped) by all. The tune is probably still adapting, especially if it had maximally adapted to the previous boost state, but approaching the refinement of the N/A ESS tune. Its weakness is probably still part throttle deceleration.
The performance is definitely pretty impressive, though my 265mm Super Sports are having no trouble sending the power to the bone-dry Southern California pavement. I'm starting to feel like the driveshaft components are the weakest link--not only does the engine put down serious power, but engine-drive resistance is substantially greater due to the load of the supercharger. I feel the need to be especially careful with the throttle transitioning between the two (mainly in 2nd and 3rd, of course--but my car spends much of its milage in those gears as I commute up and down the mountain). That's probably not hard to get used to, and I think the tune continuing to learn will improve it. Pleasantly, the S/C whine is significantly more noticeable now; I love it. Chris thinks the BPV whistle is normal, which I suspected from the beginning--but especially with some of the S/C noise conspicuously quiet, it was stand-out annoying. I still don't like it and would probably prefer a BOV, but at least the BPV recycling is technically audible when you push the car to reasonably high RPMs. I will give further updates as I drive the car more in the next few days...Tuesday I will probably return to NorCal and will have the entire day to experiment. I got a video of driving a loop around the neighborhood with my GoPro, and the audio is potentially interesting but still pretty low quality. Still looking for a better solution for audio capture on/in cars, specifically... I'll upload it, but the internet here is slow so I can't wait for it to finish tonight. |

the s/c may make a whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise very faintly throughout the rev range, power is awesome, i agree one of the reasons im not running mega stixky tyres but High performance street tyres, this power WILL damaged something drivetrain related if your not careful..... im not expecting the clutch to last to long but the HPF m3's prove me wrong all day long :-) keep an eye on the driveability as what you explain part throttle isnt what im experiencing, infact the thing that impresed me the most was the better drive when not driving fast.... part throttle driving, low speed tractability, and general low rev manners are better than stock, not to mention highway crusing @ 70mph with 0.5 boost showing the car is more economical. do some 7900rpm runs asap to get the adaption process uptop as well, you need to use a good range of revs in the first few hundred miles.... looking forward to seeing how this progresses and reading your reviews........
