Boring out the throttle body
I've been looking alot at Dinan products and for $800 they'll bore out the throttle body both sides and make it pretty. My question with that is; Even if you bored it out would it still matter if you didnt change the center ring, the thing that actually opens up? Makes no sense why people would pay so much money for that? They claim a 5 hp gain but 800 to me isnt worth 5 hp, maybe a larger throttle body yes. Can someone shed some light on this.

They do change the center ring (the flap), have to otherwise you will have a gap with air seeping through. Would feel like having your foot on the throttle slightly.
Since you have the TS2 it might be worth it for you, more air in. For a NA car wouldn't be noticeable. Maybe a slight increase in throttle response. They come up used here and there on some other forums. Wouldn't buy new, could also get a shop to bore it out for you instead of going Dinan route for much cheaper. |

I have a shop in Nashville that will bore it out for me but with out changing the flap its basically money down the drain. Ill keep my eye out on here and bimmerforums maybe one will pop up.
Where or what would I look for in a larger generic TB?

The next question is this:
If you send in your throttle bodies to be modified, do you have to do a rezero-setpoint adjustment like you would have to do on new bodies as stated in the TIS? |

I have been contemplating getting bored throttle bodies for quite some time now to complement my Evolve CF Airbox and SS V1 Stepped Headers.
As others have mentioned, only get it done if you appropriately increase the diameter of the flap as well. I can't imagine there being too many gains, but everything adds up in the end I guess. I have been told by many people that it might only be worth it if I do headwork and cams to further potential of the gains. The funny thing about those VAC TBs is that I asked if they could provide me with a dyno showing that 8-12whp on a NA S54B32. They told me they had none....
