Fair price for a 2006 3.0SI?
Ladies and germs!
What do you think would be a good fair price for a private party 2006 z4 3.0si in blue? It's a stick with 48k miles and appears to be in good shape. The tires need to be replaced though and it was involved in a minor fender bender which broke a couple of lights in the back- the owner has the receipts to prove the repairs so it appears very minor. KBB seems overpriced as usual at 19.9k, while edmunds appears underpriced at 14k. It's currently listed in the mid 19s and I was thinking of offering around 16-17k. Any thoughts would be appreciated! gas-can |

19s are highly optimistic. I think your numbers sound good, but will depend on if the seller is ready to take a 3k hit below what he thinks it's worth. You have to also weigh factors like number of previous owners, maintenance records, general gut for the owner, etc. If the fender bender shows up on the Carfax be prepared to explain when you sell it later. Good luck and make sure to post pics if you get it.

Not a good indicator maybe due to the time lapse, however, I paid $19K for mine in Feb. 2011 with 42K miles from a Mazda dealer in San Antonio. I am the third owner. (Without the mods indicated below).

Thank you gents. Makes me think I'm on the right path. Just like hogzilla said though, I'm not sure if the seller will see it that way!
griff: not the first time that I heard of carmax offering a low number. Then they turn around and mark it up by 6 grand. Amazing they can sell anything at all! Lark: thank your for that data point. If the car was sold by a dealer in 2011 for that, then a pp sale should definitely be lower at the end of 2012. I've noticed that there are a tonne of zeds in Texas though - wish I lived closer thanks, gas-can |

I just paid $18,450 for my cherry 2004 2.5L. The car is loaded. Only thing missing is Xenon headlights . The car has 17,XXX miles on it. I purchased it from the original owner who kept it garaged and only drove it on the weekends. I rated the car better then excellent and was willing to pay a higher asking price. I passed on a 2005 3.0L because my gut kept telling me to go with the '04.

I'll be interested to hear if you can talk him down. My 06' Monaco Blue 3.0si might be going on the market in the spring. It's just at 50k now. I was hoping I might get upper teens, but we'll see.

I believe it also depends on where you live and what season they are selling, especially a roadster.
I bought my high mileage '06 3.0si in the beginning of August. I'm sure I paid a premium due to the season. Mine is loaded up and I paid $15K. I paid a dealership $175 took do their inspection. The result was that my front end bushings were bad. So I bought the Meyle kit to replace the front bushings, front control arms, tie rods etc. the car drives 100% better. Tires were just put on before I purchased. Next will be shocks. I also had every fluid changed as I don't trust previous history. It's great, but I also like a clean slate. When I was looking, I couldn't find an '06 below $18,500 here in the Bay Area. This one needed new bushings so I'm guessing the seller dropped since test drives felt odd, and he didn't want to pay 600-700 for the stealership to change. Ultimately, in the end the only thing that matters is that you're happy with your purchase. Selfishly, now that I'm a z4 owner I like to see them sell for high prices. Shop around, test drive a bunch and buy the one you like. |

I paid $18k for my 2006 3.0i in August of this year. 42k on the odometer, originally listed at $21k by local dealer. One owner car, all records included, no accidents, in very good condition. If you can get that car for $16k it is a bargain. Around here, you can't touch a 2006 or newer for under $18k, unless the miles are high. Under 50k miles will cost you.

Thank you guys.
I examined the car and test drove it for a decent amount of time yesterday at low and high speeds. Engine and tranny appears to be in very good condition and the owner has the records showing the maintenance that was done. The interior and exterior are also in very good condition. The top is beige, so it has some lines, but they are minor and may even wash away after a good wash. All the interior appointments appeared to be working well too. The car has obviously been looked after. The bodywork that was done after the valet accident appears to have been done very well. I wouldn't have spotted it if she did not tell me about it and she has all the paperwork on the repairs, so I offered her 17250. She stated that she had another interested buyer, so if she accepts my offer, I'll just give a call to her mechanics to confirm the papers she presented, and will then complete the deal. The offer I made was a bit higher than I originally planned, but the vehicle appears to have been well taken care of. The only 2 issues I saw are that the tires need replacement and the accident (a non issue for me due to the papers and high quality repair). I've been looking for a z for a while and it's been difficult to find what I want, hence the slightly higher price. Most for sale are automatics I wish you Americans would learn to drive more sticks so that they wouldn't be so bloody rare!!! I'll keep you posted on what happens. Thanks for your help! gas-can |

Not to hijack a thread but I am thinking of selling my 2006 3.01SI as well.
It's stick, silver, and in mint mint condition with only 21K KM's. Everything is stock, including tires (RFT's) and only upgrades were an eBay MP3 player + ZHP shift knob. Exterior and interior are immaculate, no stone chips, etc. It's like a brand new car. Reason - only driven for 3 years by my friend, but she had a kid, divorced and she stored it for 2 years. I picked it up to help her pay the divorce bills + and it was sitting in her mom's 1 car garage lol. I have an Accord and with a kid, I never go out and hardly drive it as well...not driving it in the in winter either. Ideally, going to sell the Accord and Z4 and get myself a TSX or something. It was $72K on the road, was going to list for $33K. It's at the high end but its mint condition. |

Just FYI, my dealer just offered me $16k trade-in on my '06 3.0si vert. It has ~50k miles and is in great shape aside from a few rock chips. That figure is just about what Edmunds quotes for trade-in. I may hold onto it until spring and try to sell it locally for more.
