It's not mentioned in any of the bulletins I've collected. The only reference that might explain the caulk is this:

If hydraulic components are to be stored for an extended period, seal off bores on hydraulic unit and hose connections for hydraulic cylinder.

Important!
If line connections on the hydraulic unit or the hydraulic lines remain open for an extended period of time (e.g. storage, maintenance time), they must be protected against the penetration of moisture.
