The 6 speed on the Z4M isn't the same output shaft/spline design as the E46 M3 or the E36. I'm not sure if I recall the technical/mechanical bits perfectly but I took away it wasn't a match. (I dug into this a bit looking at converting the 5 speed box in my Z3M to a 6 speed plus diff change). E46 gearbox, yes, Z4M no.

What don't you like much or want to improve? Motor mounts, transmission mounts, an Autosolutions SSK or CAE shifter does wonders. Gear ratios not to liking? 1st to 2nd grind?
The input shaft splines and so the clutch on the Z4M are unique. To convert to a 5 speed or any E46M fitment, you simply need to also change the clutch. I'm currently running an S52 flywheel/clutch to mate to my ZF 5 speed for my Z4MC.

A sequential would indeed be wicked on track. I've been thinking about this as well. I wouldn't think you would want one if the car is used on the street.
