Having made the move from a Z4C to a 981S, I might have a little insight on your thoughts.
I fell in love with the driving experience of the 981 when I test drove a pdk 981 boxster S. I had never smiled so much driving a car before and I am a manual guy!I was hooked and ordered a 981 cayman S.

While I have never developed a real hook into the look of a cayman like I had for a Z4C, the driving enjoyment the car has brought me is leagues above. I can only imagine the GT4 will offer an even more engaging experience. These cars are really hard to beat in that area.

even if you can't get a GT4, get a gts or even a lowly S and I think you'll be pretty happy. agreed the rear is worst angle for the car, which made me test drive a 991 (which has a great arse), but the 991 was for me, due to its bigger size and further away placement of the engine, not as engaging and fun. Maybe add the techart rear wing to another cayman if you can't get a GT4.

Best with the decision.
