R-comps actually last longer on the street than many people think, but you're not going to get 40K miles out of them. To me, the wear tradeoff is worth it for the incomparable grip and roadfeel. They REALLY wake up the car's chassis, especially with the right alignment. I do high speed fun runs pretty regularly on the weekends (out in the middle of nowhere) so I more than get my money out of them, even when not at the track.

I don't get 40k miles on ANY tire, I don't think I've ever gone even 10k on a set of tires (at least not the axle that wears fastest).
