UUC Evo 3 + DSSR + Transmission Mounts Installed

Hello,

I thought I would write a quick review about the UUC shifter + DSSR combo. I purchased the kit (EVO 3, DSSR, and transmission mounts (no enforcer cups)) about two months ago and finally got around to installing it this Saturday.

First thing was getting the car in the air, which is a little harder for me since my car is slightly dropped (H&R Springs).

Once the car is in the air the Cats + Section 2 need to come out. This was somewhat involved since I have Euro headers and a section 1 with O2 Sensors. Removing the exhaust required many of the shields and braces on the underside of the car to be removed.

Once I removed the actual shift carrier (damn that thing is long!), I installed the Evo 3, but I ran into an issue with the DSSR. The bend in the DSSR would not clear the shift carrier. I tried to install the stock SSR but Evo 3's bushing were prolly .0005-.001" to small.

So I decided to bend the DSSR in my vice. I heated it up and reduced the bend about .100-.150". The DSSR went in quite nicely. One thing I should note is that the shift kit did not come with enough yellow OEM shift bushings to adequately remove all of the play. I had a few extras and along with some copper bushings I was able to pull the play our of the shear pins.

To be honest I was pretty upset when the DSSR would not fit. I was just glad I was able to get it to work nicely.

I then replaced the transmission mounts with UUC mounts. This was a good move considering that the stock mounts were on there way out.

While under the car I decided to delete the CDV valve. I used factory brake/clutch fluid ($4.50 a pint).

Overall I think there is a definite improvement in the shifting mechanism. I definitely like the clutch without the CDV valve, it feels much rawer.

The shifts are much shorter and somewhat more precise (stock shifter is really a beautifully designed system).

I would recommend this upgrade if your shifter has some miles on it and is getting a bit sloppy. The shift knob is sitting somewhat higher than before, but I actually like it that way.

I am considering a ZHP shift knob though.

If anyone in the Los Angeles area is considering this mod and needs some help, let me know.
