The beeping can be coded on or off I believe. Even perhaps without the alarm??

Regarding the start, I would start (no pun) with the battery. Taking a long time to crank usually indicates a worn battery (as long as engine is ok) - things will get worse as the weather gets colder too. You might even have the original battery in there! Mine only went out last year.
