Thought you guys might enjoy this. Over the weekend my dad and I picked up a pretty rare find. 1971 BMW 3.0 CSi VIN # 2260547. Manufactured October 22, 1971 and delivered to the BMW dealer Schafbrucke in Saarbrucken, Germany. At some point it was imported into the US grey market. 1971 was the first year for the 3.0CSi which featured a mechanically injected (D-Jetronic) M30 and a dogleg five speed manual transmission. According to BMW there were 1061 CSi's built in 1971 and this car is production #547. The original color was Baikal metallic (paint code 042). At some point in its life the car was turned into a convertible as was semi-popular back in the day and painted Alpine White. We plan to fully restore the car and come up with a better version of the convertible top that was originally retrofitted to the car. Should be a fun project I am fairly excited about owning and restoring such a beautiful piece of BMW history. Here's a few pictures of the car as it sits.
The car at the previous owners house.
Notice how they did the convertible top. Similar to the way you would do a boat top. Not very found of it. We will be coming with a more factory like solution.
Sitting in our garage with my small block 280z.
Original European gauge cluster.
And just a little picture of how good these cars do look as convertibles
