It's more likely a negative effect actually, I'm not sure about the system in the S54 but EGR is critical for NOx emissions and keeping combustion temps down. Maybe somebody here who knows the conditions (RPM, load, temp, etc.) when the EGR is active on these cars could chime in.

I don't think power would meaningfully change in either direction, but increased temps likely aren't good for your engine oil and exhaust valves. The weight savings are negligible, it seems this mod is a trade between a "clean" engine bay and failing smog at the least (in California anyway).
