I did the exact same thing. Shrink tube. I also don't let the power tool spin too much. I put my hand on the socket and stop the socket from spinning after it has loosened the lug nut. Then I use my left hand to support the socket and my right hand to unscrew the lug nut the rest of the way. It's ridiculous but it works.
