Need some help/advice

So my car was hit in my complex's parking lot. No note. I think it was the car that parks next to me because: (1) There's black paint smudges on my car and the car that parks next to me is black and (2) I haven't seen the car since. I'm assuming its owner has it at a body shop as we speak.

Anyway, I called my insurance company and filed a claim. I was planning to take it to MAC because they're a very reputable shop. I made an appointment with MAC and was going to have the car appraised there so that the guys at MAC could make sure I don't get some lowball offer. The insurance company called me today and said they were sending an appraiser out and asked me where my car is located. It was sitting in a train station parking lot. So now I have a feeling they're going to lowball me and I may not be able to take it to MAC with what my insurance company gives me.

Is there anything I can do about this?

If it's out of my hands, does anyone know a shop in NJ that's anywhere near as good as MAC but costs less?
