I read about one test RPI did with a 5 series (can't remember if it was an M5 or not) that was anything but fair and scientific. They ran the car repeatedly on the dyno until the inlet air temp was around 140 deg and *surprise* with IAT that high there was a loss of power. There have been lots of discussions on the various boards about whether or not the intakes lose power. I can tell you from personal experience, if it does lose power it is not a noticeable amount and you'd need a dyno to verify (1-2 hp MAYBE). From an engineering standpoint, the aFe intake is much less restrictive. Can the stock electronics adapt to the increased airflow? Who knows.

What I can tell you is the sound is amazing, and it significantly enhances the driving experience. The car sounds mean when you get on it, and is not much louder than stock at part throttle. It's only loud when you want it to be, unlike aftermarket exhausts.
