So over the last three days I spent a good amount of time in my friend's GTI with him behind the wheel (went Mountain Biking in Vermont). This is the first time I've driven with him. When pulling in and out of various locations at low speeds he would constantly fully engage 1st gear and sometimes even shift into 2nd gear, lugging the engine along. My approach to very slow speed maneuvering has always been to "nudge" the car along with low throttle and partial clutch. While this is slipping the clutch I viewed it as better than having it fully engaged and lugging and jolting the drive train.

Thoughts on this? Just curious what others think, I'm not trying to be righteous (never too old to be corrected).
