Hi! Mine had something yesterday exactly as you describe. As I started to notice loss of power I stopped and the exhaust sounded like a popcorn machine.
Did you notice this as well? Replacing the Exhaust Vanos Solenoid did the trick?
Wonder if this could've caused any stress on other components..
Since car "reboot", everything has been fine so i'm guessing the valve is asking for a replacement.
