I tried to get a real answer out of him, but he gave the BMW party line that "synchros break sometimes no matter what you do" and "the M transmission was made to be driven hard, so you shouldn't worry about it too much." That said, given the history of this thread and the numerous reports of gear issues, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not as rare as we hope. The real answer I was looking for and couldn't get was whether the NEW transmission is a revised model which fixed the defects of the original, or if it's just a replacement of the exact same model. I really, really don't expect to (or should have to, for that matter) shell $10K out of pocket in another 30K miles to replace it again...
My odometer is about 29500 right now. For those of you who have also experienced consistent grinds, how many miles do you have on your Z4M's?
