Laval is mostly the burbs, but there are a few prisons in the area and that does bring in the unsavory. But I would not worry about it. Canada is generally safe and Montreal is no different for a big city. I don't worry about walking around anywhere. Montreal also has a relatively high rate of vehicle thefts, but they seem to be going for large SUVs and Diesel Trucks (that are undoubtly heading to the third world in shipping containers
I would just do as you normally do and I would be more concerned about some idiot hitting your door or bumper than anything else. I think at car events like these, people love to see all the beautiful machines and typically respect them. You'll get to see a lot of Ferraris as Gille Villeneuve (Quebec’s Favorite Son) drove for Ferrari when he crashed and died
