Am proud to be able to say I saw the great John Fitch speak at Corvettes in Carlisle (PA) on the 50th anniversary and the unveiling of his 1960 Le Mans class winning #3 Corvette (8th overall). What a man, what a life he lead.

Jay,
I'm glad that you got to see John. His efforts as the first manager of the Corvette racing team aren't very well known, but he did a great job. And he was also one of the drivers at the same time. While developing the race cars for Sebring, every new item that he wanted for racing had to be made available on the production Corvettes, and the pace of development and improvement for the street cars was phenomenal!
I often quote a line from his autobiography, which he wrote concerning the Corvette team's success in its first year: "It was less than we hoped for but more than we deserved."
