Here's the breakdown.
I've tried the same wheels on a z4m and m3. I would say there is a 10mm difference in the outer fender. M3 can fit more.
Also, in the inner fender,there is also about 5-10mm less clearance.
But, the z4m can fit wider wheels up front, but not a lower offset.
For example, I can run an 11" wide wheel up front (with stretch) while the e46 m3 can only barely run a 10.5 with the same fitment.
However, the front varies depending on coilover setup.
Also, everything varies on if you have rolled or pulled your rear fenders.
