In fact, I looked at Execuhitch and all they offer are hitches for the E89 chassis.

I have one on my F07...and they list many of the BMW models. I do not know the differences between the earlier Z4 and the newer ones. To install any of theirs, you have to take the rear bumper cover off, typically remove the crushable part, and then the hitch bolts into those holes (obviously, the cover goes back on when you're done with the install!). The ball or receiver (the receiver is only rated to carry a bike rack or similar, you have to use the ball to tow any trailer) are interchangeable into the hitch, and go in from the bottom, so typically, you have to make a hole in the bottom of the cover and the arm brings it out beyond the bumper.
