I've purchased exactly the same setup you've outlined above, including the Emprum and Satechi mount. Haven't had a chance to put it in the car yet though.
I have purchased an extension cable to maybe put between the iPhone and the GPS, decision more driven my the case I've got the phone in than anything else...
Need some more time to give it a try, certainly would be interested in sharing results.
