actually looking at the pic in HD on my laptop i seems to me once that piece would be tighten or aligned correctly it would be well withing those notches that you high-lighted, look at the angle of the rsm..... theirs more than enough space for this to fit once the rsm is seated correctly.....

btw when i do this install i will making sure i take apart my interior very gently, im happy to take extra time to preserve the linings in this area.
