You don't need to.
BMW wires are COLOR CODED. Lavender wires are live with 12V power at switch position 1. The strip color determines the amount it is fused. The minimum fuse is 5AMP. No strip means un-fused power (danger! Do not tap!). Green wires are live with 12V Power at switch position 2. There are a couple of other color wires I have yet to figure out what the color stands for, but they all supply power in a specific fashion. For example, the wire that I tapped for the UGDO installation (see thread here:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...highlight=UGDO) supplies DIMMED power (meaning it dims with the headlight dial, same as the stereo on the dash) is grey with red stripe. I haven't dug in the back of the stereo to see if the grey wires are indeed dimmed power when headlight is switched on.
I've dug into the E9X overhead console and the color scheme is identical. Lavender = switched 12V at 1, green is switched power at 2.
