Double clutching is for downshifting not upshifting.


For the OP you have to modify how you shift, you cannot jerk it into gear, you have to smoothly but firmly and evenly press it into gear. They don't like being mashed on.

Additionally if you ever try to shift into second from a wheel spin scenario, just forget about it going smoothly.

It seems dumb that we don't have the e46 M transmission, but just think to yourself, do you really want the 7 year old transmission in the car? Even the "regular" BMWs have better transmissions now.


I've considered changing the tranny oil to a redline or another premium brand a few times. Usually helps with things like this.
