Well, the only issue with stepping down to 17's, from the research I've done, is that only some will fit over the stock rotors. Additionally, with winter tires, narrower = better traction; so an 8 or 7.5" setup is more ideal than the stock width. PLUS, with the tires being larger, having more sidewall is your friend in areas that get snow, since snow = potholes. PLUS, I wanted a square setup - being able to rotate the tires when necessary, resale, etc.
BTW - anyone have opinions on the blizzak studless ice/snow tires (WS70) versus the blizzak 'performance winter' tires (LM60)?
