I just put my set on a few weeks ago when I was home on leave. I was able to get them mounted far enough back that the hole isn't going through the polished tip. It was pretty close though, just enough space to put a socket on it. I think they could go back further, but the mesh over the smaller pipe divert is getting in the way.
Total pain to drill the hole though. I took it to a shop where a long time friend works and we ended up breaking a couple smaller bits trying to get through the metal.
The nut on the inside is slightly noticeable when standing near the car, even with them as far back as I did. My car isn't lowered either so maybe if it was lower it wouldn't be as noticeable?
There is a small amount of difference in the drone, not much, but it is more tolerable on the highway.
