BTW my previous E36 M3 plate was E36 S52 (chassis followed by engine code). Suppose you could do E86 S54 more unique and car centric then "Z4M BMW" general stuff

I generally agree with that. However, in my neck of the woods, vanity license plates are not offered. You can only have a conventional plate and they have a set configuration too: three alphabetical characters followed by three numbers, and the plates are issued sequentially. So, one has to either get lucky with a nice plate number, or try to persuade the local motor registration folks into getting you something decent. In view of that, I really couldn't be too choosy with the plate on my car:
HTZ-004.
