The SMG on the Z4 shifts fairly quickly, but not really "that" quickly like the SMG2. Without the CDV, I can probably easily equal its up-shifting time (except the 1-2 shift, but that's more of a fault of the car than mine). I wouldn't be able to do this every time, more like 7 out of 10 times. I don't think the Z4's SMG takes 0.8 seconds to up-shift. More like 0.3 seconds. 0.3 seconds isn't that short of time - you can catch a basketball and shoot it in 0.3 seconds.

Down-shifting is another story. I couldn't (and will never be able to) rev-match down-shift as precisely and consistently as the SMG does. And that's really the whole advantage of the SMG. It offers consistency & precision that cannot be matched by any human being. I doubt Hans Stuck would be able to shift perfectly 10,000 out of 10,000 times, or 10 million out of 10 million times.
