As someone who once had the "grind" and learned how to drive the car so as to not grind, try slipping 2nd the slightest bit. I can't tell you for 100% sure what I've changed in my driving "style" that eliminated the grind, but I can drive as hard and shift as fast as I want, breaking the rear tires loose through 3rd gear shifts and I never grind anymore. I do remember trying a number of things, one of which was forcing myself to "slip" 2nd the teensy tinsiest bit.
