Cons = not necessarily stronger than steal.

These don't like wheel hop or diverse loads very well (something quite common when launching / doing slides / etch on a radial tire with stiff side walls). When they break, they break violently, not necessarily that they do damage to anything else, but rather that they literally will shatter upon failure.

Second thing to realize is that while Carbon fiber is a strong material often compared to steel at a significant weight savings, you're putting your driveline in the hands of a glue/epoxy. Carbon doesn't bolt to aluminum so an epoxy is used to affix the mounting surface to the carbon shaft. I've seen many cases where the joint itself begins spinning inside of the carbon fiber shaft, sometimes after only a few miles. This varies from brand to brand and application to application.

If you're really looking to drop weight, this should be last on your list. Lightweight wheels, tires, brake components, flywheel, clutch, etc all should be on your wish list well before a carbon shaft.
