Sport mode makes the car too touchy, and the gas pedal turns into an on/off switch. Very few use sport mode on the track for this reason. Otherwise, there are no downsides. I know normal and sport mode have different programming, in that pedal travel vs gas delivered is not proportional. Boosting the signal in normal mode doesn't necessarily make the car behave like it's in sport mode.
I had good results with the Shark Injector. It made the throttle much more intuitive. The bump in power and raised redline were nice too.
IMHO, combining the Shark Injector programming with another mode that boosts the signal when the clutch pedal is depressed would be the best of both worlds... being able to blip the throttle on downshifts but maintain that connected feeling.
