That's just the thing. Those kits cater to cars with stock wheel/tire sizes. They are willing to waste space, which is an indicator of the use they intended it for. Many kits: TCK, GC, AST won't have this issue in most cases, as the spring length they come with is already the right size.
buying a shorter spring for those kits allows for more tire width = grip = speed. two springs are around $160. That one change becomes the next best $160 you can spend on the car. It would take a lot more money to get a car with a 245 front tire to go as fast as a car with a 265 front tire (all else being equal).
