The biggest factor in value will be the depreciation curve of the next car seen as an SDC (serious driver's car) by BMW enthusiasts - the 1M. Four years after that model is released, it will start to appear in the 20s, and be marginally more practical and eminently more tunable, and demand will drop for the Z4MC.

Even e30 m3 prices were in the tank for few years around 00-03, you could pick up a nice e30 m3 for around $5-9k. The s54 mz3 has never dropped below about $25k average.
The mz4 likely won't be as strong as the s54 mz3 market is due to 3x the numbers, but I don't think you will ever be able to buy a nice one for under about $20k.
