There are some good thing happening over on the E90 NA engine modifications section.
A few members have sorted how to flash custom tunes over standard Dcan cables. They are working on safe distribution methods before going any more public than they already have. A file to convert your 3.0 I to an SI is very easy to prep. I did mine like two years ago. Aside from the hassles of the RSA bypass getting your car to run a 3.0si. File is one byte change and a checksum correction.
Lately I've been working on custom automatic tunes for my Z4. Been running these for a few months and they totally transformed the car. Raised rev limits, faster shifts, gear display in all modes etc. it's been fun and I'm hoping to have a safe way to distribute the trans tune when the above mentioned group release the software.
