I was in shock how powerful the engine felt after the new VANOS was installed.
Before the repair, I felt power at intial take-off and at top-end and mid-range was sort-of flat.
Now the engine pulls strong from take-off to top-end.
It's a joy to drive again.
Apparently the VANOS was not working properly for a long time maybe before the warning light was going on and off.
I still do not understand why the warning light would come on and off regularly.
I was told the problem with the VANOS-UNIT was that one of the pistons inside the unit was occasionally sticking.

I don't remember it running this good when I bought ot at 22,000 miles... so there may have been some wrong with the VANOS-UNIT when I first bought it.

I had a Z3 M Coupe with a S54 engine years ago and can't remember how it felt... but because I replaced the factory 3.15 diff with a 3.75 diff, it's power delivery felt much different than my current Z4 M Coupe.

Bottom line... I'm happy with how the engine is responding now....
