The campsites were one of the few things that had changed quite a bit since I was there as a teenager. As you noted, they are quite nice now. Back in the day, they weren't marked, other than having a picnic table and a grill. You pretty much just parked your tent wherever you felt like it.
Now, the view of the lake is exactly the same!
