I keep on hand dedicated engine bay microfiber towels. I dampen them as needed and wipe things down. If done every few car washes, the engine bay stays clean enough for me.

& I agree, don't power wash, it can lead to a sorts of electrical issues.
If you are going the degrease & wash down route, it should never be anything other than a free flowing hose.
