I haven't worked on an S54, but on an S14 pump volume does not affect oil pressure. There are 2 sets of springs in the pump a horizontal that is the major relief valve (for cold oil start up) and a vertical spring. To increase the pressure you need to shim the vertical spring (2mm shim added approx. 20 psi.) and add a higher pressure Horizontal spring (like on an EVO pump) or completely blocked off (Like on a DTM pump)

From what I have read, the S54 has something similar with a "Pressure Control Piston"
